Trig Palin |
Trig was born at 6:30 in the morning and weighs six pounds and two ounces. His full name is Trig Paxson Van Palin. How did Trig get his name? Trig is named after a great uncle who was a Bristol Bay fisherman. Paxson is the name of a popular snowmachining area in Alaska.
At the time of Trig's birth, his family released this statement:
"Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed."
Trig Palin was born with a condition called Down Syndrome. Down Syndrome is a genetic defect caused by the presence of an additional chromosome. Most human beings have 46 chromosomes, but a Down Syndrome baby has 47. People with Down Syndrome often have some cognitive and learning disabilities, as well as some unique physical conditions.
Sarah Palin
Sarah and Todd Palin were aware of Trig condition before he was born. About 80% of babies diagnosed with Down Syndrome in America are aborted by the parents. Sarah and Todd chose to allow their baby to live and consider him a gift from God.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a child with Down Syndrome? Have you wondered what difficulties and challenges they would face? You can learn about them by reading this personal story of the mother of a child with Down Syndrome.
Trig's mom is former Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin was also the vice-presidential running mate of Republican Presidential candidate, Senator John McCain, in 2008. After Sarah Palin became McCain's running mate, the family came under intense criticism and scrutiny by the national media. Please pray that the Palin family will be able to stay strong and happy in spite of their media detractors, and pray that Trig will grow up to be happy and healthy!
